LAYR

LAYR does not collect anything.
It has no servers, no accounts and no analytics. Your photographs and videos are read from your device, arranged on your device, and stay on your device unless you choose to share them somewhere yourself.
This policy covers the LAYR app for iPhone, published by Stefan Williams. It applies to the app and its Share Extension, the part of LAYR that appears in other apps’ share sheets.
Everything below is stored on your device. None of it is sent anywhere.
The photos and videos you choose. When you add media to a composition, LAYR copies it into its own storage on your device. It copies rather than references, so a composition does not break when you reorganise your photo library.
Your compositions. Each one is a small file describing the arrangement, plus the media in it, saved in the app’s own folder.
Your preferences. Spacing, margins, frames, the layout family you last used, and whether you have seen the introduction.
The date your free trial started. A single timestamp, stored in the iOS keychain. See Deleting your data — this one behaves differently from the rest.
Nothing. LAYR contains no code that contacts a server of ours, because there is no server of ours. It includes no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting, no tracking, and no third-party software development kits of any kind. LAYR does not ask you to create an account, and it has no way to identify you.
LAYR asks for two separate permissions, and uses each only for what it says:
Access to your library, so it can show you your photos and videos to choose from. LAYR reads them to display them and to copy the ones you select. It never uploads them and never reads them in the background.
Permission to add to your library, so that exporting a finished composition can save it to Photos.
You can withdraw either permission at any time in Settings. If you choose Limited Access, LAYR only ever sees the photos you have picked.
LAYR’s subscription is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. Payment is made to Apple, not to us. We never see your card details, your name, your email address or your Apple Account. All the app does is ask iOS whether an active subscription exists on this device, and receives yes or no. That check happens on the device. Apple’s own privacy policy governs the purchase itself.
Exporting to Instagram, or using the system share sheet, hands your finished composition to that app at your request. From that point it is covered by that app’s privacy policy, not this one. LAYR does not send anything to another app unless you tap a button to do so.
Sharing photos into LAYR from another app copies them into a private storage area shared between the app and its extension, on your device. LAYR removes them from that area as soon as it has added them to a composition.
Delete the app. Your compositions, your copied media and your preferences all go with it.
The trial date is the one exception. It is stored in the iOS keychain, which by design survives deleting an app. This is so the free trial cannot be restarted indefinitely by reinstalling. It is a date and nothing more, it identifies no one, and it is never transmitted. Erasing your device removes it.
LAYR is rated 4+ and is safe for any age, because it collects nothing and has no social features, no messaging and no web browsing. It is not directed at children specifically.
If LAYR ever begins collecting anything, this page will say so before that version ships, and the date at the top will change. Given that LAYR has no servers, we do not expect it to.
