Making something
How do I start?
Tap New LAYR, choose your photos and videos, then pick a composition. You can change the composition at any point afterwards without losing your work — swipe across the canvas to move through the arrangements in the family you are in.
How do I move a picture?
One finger moves the picture, two fingers reframe it. Drag a picture onto another one to swap them. In the formats that lie on a surface — Polaroid, Torn Paper, Stacked Prints — a print stays wherever you put it.
Can I change the crop?
Pinch with two fingers inside a frame to zoom, and drag with one to reposition. For finer work, double-tap a picture, or use the crop tool in the toolbar at the bottom.
Can I add text?
Yes. The Diary presets add a time to each photograph automatically, taken from when the photograph was actually shot and rounded to the nearest hour. A time belongs to its picture, so moving the picture takes the time with it.
Exporting
Where do my exports go?
Straight to your Photos library, at up to 4K. Compositions containing video export as video; everything else exports as an image.
Why does my export say “made with LAYR”?
That mark is on exports during the free week. Subscribing removes it. Nothing else about the export changes.
An export failed or the app closed during it
Very large compositions with several long videos are the usual cause. Try trimming the clips, or exporting at a smaller size. If it keeps happening, email us and say roughly how many pictures and videos were in it — that is the useful detail.
Subscription
What do I get, and what does it cost?
LAYR is free for the first seven days. After that a subscription keeps it working and removes the mark from your exports. The price is shown in your own currency on the subscription screen before you buy anything.
How do I restore a subscription?
Settings → Restore purchase. Use the same Apple Account you subscribed with. Nothing is charged again.
How do I cancel?
Cancelling is handled by Apple, not by us: iOS Settings → your name → Subscriptions → LAYR → Cancel. You keep access until the end of the period you have paid for. Settings → Manage subscription inside LAYR takes you there.
I was charged and the app still says I am not subscribed
Tap Restore purchase in Settings first — that is nearly always it, particularly if you subscribed on another device. If it persists, email us with the date of the charge.
Photos and permissions
LAYR cannot see my photos
iOS Settings → LAYR → Photos, and choose All Photos. If you chose Limited Access, LAYR only ever sees the photographs you have specifically picked, which is a perfectly good way to use it — but it will look like pictures are missing.
Sharing photos into LAYR from another app
Use the share sheet in Photos or any other app and choose LAYR. It opens with your pictures ready to arrange.
Your data
LAYR collects nothing. No accounts, no analytics, no servers. Your photographs are read from your device, arranged on your device, and stay there unless you export or share them yourself. The full detail is in the privacy policy.
